This is your reminder to take a purposeful break.

Sometimes you have to go slow, in order to go fast.

Come escape with us.

If any of that sounds familiar, I want to introduce you to the construction retreat you deserve but never knew existed.

Join a small, handpicked, group of industry peers as they gather to share and learn from one another by campfire, all the while engaging in a creative intensive that aims to re-energize your body and mind.

I can’t wait to re-energize alongside you.

What others are saying about SoBuilt

A girl feeling sad
"I've felt unheard for the longest time and speaking to you made me feel heard. I felt I was at fault or there was something wrong with me and I didnt belong in construction"
Drawing on a Board
"I appreciate your focus on bringing clarity through actions and not only talking. Having specific technical things to take back to work was helpful for me."

Your Host

Hi, my name is Kristina, with a K :)

I have been dreaming up events like these for our industry for quite some time and I'm so thrilled to share this space with you.

I have worked in the construction industry for over a decade, grinding away at crazy hours and delivering some of the most exciting projects. But along the way, I learned some pretty unhelpful and unhealthy habits from construction that almost pushed me away from the industry entirely. I hit a rock bottom and had to ask a lot of hard questions.

In the end, I came out of it feeling empowered to advocate for myself, embrace creativity, stop imposter syndrome and create a construction culture that didnt erode families slowly.

I created SoBuilt, the Society for Built Experiences, to create this culture I've been dreaming of. A place where people can build a sense of belonging, purpose and curiosity. I have found that once we hit all three, we feel a sense of wholeness and hope that helps us through even the hardest days.

I hope to meet you soon.

FAQs

What will I gain by the end of this weekend?

By the end of this weekend, you will have gave yourself permission to slow down and grow at the same time. Engage in fun creative rest and meet new people in the industry. You will feel energized by what you should do at your day job knowing that you have a support system of like-valued peers. You will have built a greater sense of belonging, actionable purpose, and curiosity.

Will I learn anything I can take back to work?

Yes, we will be having fun and bonding, but we will also be discussing tangible ways to create this environment at work and get you some clarity on best next steps.

What is the exact address of the cabin?

For privacy reasons, we will be sending you an email directly with the address of the cabin. For planning purposes, you can plan to arrive in Accokeek, MD. If you have not received the address after buying a ticket, please reach out to Kristina.

What is the best way to arrive at the location if I'm flying in?

Ordering an uber/lyft is your best choice when flying into DCA or IAD.

How many people will be at the cabin?

We are currently planning to have a maximum of 6 attendees plus Kristina and her assistant for the day of the event.

I have a dietary restriction, will food be provided that meets my needs?

Absolutely! A few weeks leading up to the event Kristina will organize some virtual intros between other members and we will even discuss what we want in our fully stocked kitchen. I got you.

I bought a ticket, should I expect any other costs?

Nope, its all-inclusive. The only items that may pertain to you is if you are taking a uber/lyft then that would be additional. You can read more about what is included here

I'm so excited! Will there be any pre-retreat events to attend?

We are excited too! :) A few weeks prior to the retreat, we will set up a few virtual sessions to meet the rest of attendees beforehand.

Do you offer grants for this event?

Yes, we may offer a grant on a case-by-case scenario. Please reach out.

Is there a dress code?

Not at all, come as you like. Most of the attendees will be casual and possibly sporting unique pieces. We will be in a cabin and occasionally go for walks so comfortable shoes are preferred. This is a work event where we recognize the realness of being humans, so where whatever you like.

Still on the fence?

Send me a direct message and feel free to ask any questions you may have on your head. I am completely open and happy to hear all types of feedback and questions.
